• Licensing and labeling: Each manufacturer should provide information to the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and follow all the specific labeling requirements. 

• Prohibited ingredients: A ban on harmful or synthetic ingredients used in making Kratom products. 

•  Penalties: Establishing administrative penalties on both vendors and buyers for violations of any rules and regulations set under the bill

Although the current status of Kratom is unrestricted and people can buy its products easily, it was not always like this. The government of Michigan has tried to put restrictions on the sale and purchase of various Kratom products. 

• Around 2014, House Bill 5805 was proposed to classify Kratom under the list of controlled substances, but it failed.

• Around 2017-2018, many attempts were made to classify Kratom as a Schedule II substance, mandating a doctor’s prescription at the time of purchase. This was proposed under the Senate Bill 0433, but was also unsuccessful. 

• In 2022, there were a few restrictions proposed on the age limits and licensing of Kratom products, but so far, no such regulations have come into effect.
